Ever since she heard Pauls Simons album «Graceland», Mari Boine felt like letting a South-African choir join in at the studio-recordings. Now she has flown to South-Africa and just did it. «Cuovgga Áirras» or «Sterna Paradisea» the album is called.
The name equals that of the red billed Arctic tern. As said in previous announcements, it is not necessary to understand Sami to feel Mari Boine. It is also not necessary to spreakSouth-African. Just listen to the duet «Conversations with God». Wonderful.
This is Mari Boines most «commercial», or as one wishes, melodious album I've heard. I want to put straight that nothing negative is meant by this. There is no weak number on the CD. It is varied music that touches you. The only thing I miss are the strong and striking moments of trance that she sometimes evokes.
