MARI BOINE FANCLUB

It was important for me to mind the Sami spirit and apply that in the music, Boine says to NKR Sámi radio.

In total she and Svein Schultz have made 70 minutes of music for the movie "Kautokeino-opprøret".

The most difficult with Elen

Mari Boine tells that the most difficult part of the production was the making of the music for Elen Aslaksdatter Skum.

– I had to visit the surroundings where the rebellion took place in Kautokeino, a place between the church and the river, says Boine.

While working on the music for Elen, Mari discovered the both of them bore great resemblances, she tells.

– Elen was a strong woman and did not accept that the governments looked down on the Sami, and neither do I.

Long process

Moviemaker Nils Gaup asked the artist Mari Boine about 6 years ago if she wanted to make the music for the movie.

– For me it has been a great honour to work for Gaup and to make 70 minutes of music for different themes was a challenge, Boine says.

Mari Boine attends the official opening of the Tromsø Internasjonale Filmfestival Wednesday.
